- Goals are desirable behaviors of potential customers that you would like to be able to track. Before you set up your goal, you must decide whether you want to classify it as Action or an Engagement. Both are types of Marketing Goals. Actions are just that: an action taken by a visitor that you deem important, such as an inbound sales call. An engagement is a reflection of serious interest, such as downloading a case study.

- Once you decide whether the Download Goal you are setting up counts as an Action or an Engagement, click on the appropriate Action/Engagement tab on the Lytiks navigation bar.

- Here you will see all of your current actions or engagements. Click “Manage Actions/Engagements” at the top right of the page.

- Choose the type of action/engagement to be “Download”. Then click the “Create New Download Action/Engagement” link.

- From the drop-down menu, choose the domain you want the action/engagement to be applied to.
- Click the “Select File” button on the right and choose one of the files from your website for which you want to register a pageview action/engagement. Examples include downloading a free trial of a software (action) or downloading a case study (engagement).

- Write in a description for the Download goal, so that you can easily see what action/engagement is being tracked when viewing your “Action” or “Engagement” page. A good example would be “Free Trial downloads” (action) or “Case Study downloads” (engagement).
You can write a more detailed description of the exact Request URI for the page that triggers an action goal that will appear underneath the action name. - Click “Save” after you are done filling in the appropriate information.

- To access the information for the goal you have just set up, click the “Action” or “Engagement” tab at any time to view your current goals. You can even sort them by goal type.
- Remember, Lytiks is real-time so the goal report will start populating data as soon as you have set it up!
